Platte River Mouth – Of course our favorite beach is where the lower Platte River empties into Lake Michigan, known as the mouth of the Platte. Hang out here after your trip with us.
Beulah Beach – Located on Crystal Lake, this beach has a designated swimming area, public restrooms, and a play structure for little ones.
Empire Beach – A favorite with families thanks to its large playground, volleyball courts, and easy access to the lake.
Esch Beach – With both lake and creek access, this scenic beach is perfect for wading, skimboarding, and picnicking.
Point Betsie Lighthouse – Tour the historic lighthouse, relax along the beach, or stop by the on-site museum and gift shop. It’s perfect for rock hunting as it’s outside the National Park, which means you can bring home your finds.
Mineral Springs Park Playground – Downtown Frankfort, you’ll find a maritime-themed play area located on Betsie Lake, just a short walk from Lake Michigan.

From rivers to trails, there are plenty of miles to explore with the whole family. These short, scenic routes are perfect for beginners and little legs. Betsie Valley Trail – A 22-mile trail that connects Frankfort, Elberta, Beulah and Thompsonville. It’s perfect for biking, walking, and bringing your pets along!
Dune Climb – The Dune Climb is a popular attraction for a reason. This 3.5-mile trek through towering sand dunes leads to Lake Michigan and typically takes 3 to 4 hours to complete.
Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail – For an easier route, explore this trail starting at the base of the Dune Climb. It’s a paved, stroller-friendly path that connects several charming towns along Lake Michigan.
Empire Bluffs Trail – A short but rewarding hike with panoramic views of Lake Michigan, great bird-watching, and a safe path for kids.
